My own reflection of how Psychotherapy can really work on healing your body

My doctor changed some of my medicines in the last month for one of my medical conditions. But the new medicines did not suit me well rather it caused some side effects. I started having high blood pressure, on an average 150/110 for the last three days. I Took a lot of medicines to reduce the bp level. But it wasn’t happening. Then today I had a session with my therapist. I told the therapist that I am having high bp but it is not reducing. Then the therapist started exploring my burning issues, initially I felt like there is nothing serious to share with. But as the session time was passing, my amazing therapist started exploring my unconscious mind and the suppressed emotions that I had. Then suddenly I told my therapist that I WANT TO CRY but there is something which is blocking me to cry. Then the therapist did a wonderful meditation to heal my wounded child. On that moment I cried a lot. Literally I CRIED A LOT. Then after the session when I opened my eyes, I saw that the stiffness that I had into my neck and shoulders for the past three days has magically gone away and I felt sooooo lighter. Yesterday my husband bought my favorite dessert and I didn’t eat it as I didn’t have any interest that time. But after the session I ate the dessert and trust me I felt like the dessert was full his love, care and nurture which I couldn’t see before. Also after the session, I counted my blessings like there are so many people who really care for me which I couldn’t see before the session. After the session, I literally slept for two hours in the evening and when I woke up, I felt so much positive energy within me. Today during the evening I did two Facebook live sessions, replied to so many emails, studied, and finally I checked my bp level and now it’s 120/80.

I won’t say that medicine doesn’t work. But this is true that our suppressed emotions can have impact into our physical body. Yes mind and body are interconnected.

I am sharing my experience because during this pandemic, we all are going through so many negative experiences and having extreme level of negative thoughts and feelings. So taking care of your mental wellbeing is a MANDATORY TASK. We spend huge money when we have to do angiogram but just think for a while why do you need to do so? Because probably you had extreme level of stress, that you couldn’t manage properly so after so many days of over adaptations, now you are spending money for your open heart surgery because your body cannot take the distress anymore. But if we could take proper counseling sessions/mental health care then may be we won’t need to spend such amount to save the life. So my philosophy is as health means both physical and mental wellbeing, so please invest your time, energy and money for your mental health care because in the long run it will save your life and of course your money as well.

Please take regular counseling sessions from a good therapist and trust me a therapist can offer you a new life with lots of love, light, and joy.
